Cook / Assistant Cook – Belfast

We are currently recruiting a Cook / Assistant Cook  for Nazareth House Care Village in Belfast.

This is a Bank / Zero Hour Contract reporting to the Catering Manager

NHCV is an 88-bed care home committed to providing high-quality care and support to our residents. We prioritize their health and well-being, including dietary requirements, to ensure they lead fulfilling lives. We are currently seeking a dedicated Cook/Cook Assistant to join our team on a bank/0-hour contract basis. This position will primarily cover sickness, absences, and weekends only.

Job Summary:

As a Cook/Cook Assistant at NHCV, you will play a crucial role in preparing and serving nutritious and delicious meals that meet the dietary requirements of our residents. You will work closely with the Head Chef to ensure that meals are prepared to the highest standards, taking into account special dietary needs and preferences. Your role will include cooking, food preparation, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Meal Preparation: Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals for residents, ensuring they are nutritious, appealing, and meet dietary requirements.

2. Special Dietary Needs: Collaborate with the diet plans mentioned by doctor/nurse to accommodate residents’ special dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, and medical conditions.

3. Food Safety: Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations, including proper storage, handling, and sanitation practices.

4. Menu Planning: Assist in menu planning and development, considering residents’ preferences and dietary restrictions.

5. Kitchen Organization: Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including regular cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, utensils, and workspaces.

6. Assist in Ordering: Assist with ordering and stocking food and kitchen supplies as needed.

7. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the kitchen team, including the Head Chef and other kitchen staff, to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

8. Resident Interaction: Engage with residents to gather feedback on meals and make adjustments accordingly, fostering a positive dining experience.

9.Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards in food preparation and service.

10. Ad Hoc Duties: Perform other kitchen-related tasks and duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Dietitian.

Qualifications:

1. Previous experience in a similar role in a care home or healthcare setting is preferred.

2. Knowledge of special dietary requirements, food allergies, and food safety practices.

3. Basic culinary skills and the ability to follow recipes.

4. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

6. A flexible schedule to cover shifts on short notice, including weekends and holidays.

7. A commitment to providing high-quality meals and care to residents.
